December Events in Southern Maryland

It’s the season for hot cocoa, holiday gifts, and celebrating with friends and family. December is almost upon us and Southern Maryland is filled with holiday cheer that is waiting just for you.  Here are some of the local events of the area to enjoy this holiday season.

A Very Retro Christmas

When: December 1st to January 5th

Where: Piney Point Lighthouse Museum

Take a step back in time at this very retro family-friendly holiday event at the Piney Point Museum and Keepers Quarters. Tour through exhibits filled with Christmas tree decorations, lawn ornaments, vintage décor, and traditions of Christmas past. This unique Christmas exhibit will be sure to make you nostalgic for the days of your youth so enjoy sharing the experience with your kids. Along the way, you can also sample some eggnog and do a little holiday shopping.

Christmas Doll and Train Exhibit

When: December 1st to January 5th

Where: St. Clements Island Museum

The holiday display includes an exhibit of antique and collectible dolls and dollhouses, classic toy trains, as well as many other classic toys of the past. Visitors will have the chance to act as conductor running the model trains, play with various dolls, write a letter to Santa, create holiday arts and crafts, and explore the holiday touch zones.

Christmas on the Beach

When: December 7th

Where: North Beach, MD

Bundle up and grab a seat on the boardwalk for the Annual Pat Carpenter Holiday Parade. A holiday favorite, hundreds of spectators come from near and far to enjoy the holiday lights, music, and floats. Make sure to keep an eye out for Santa himself, who will be riding on the local fire truck with a bag full of special treats for the kids. There will be refreshments and campfires to keep your belly full and your toes warm as well. Stop by the North Beach Christmas Market before you leave and do some holiday shopping as well.

Summerseat Farm’s Annual Christmas Open House

When: December 7th

Where: Mechanicsville, MD

Enjoy a day at the historic Summerseat Farm Manor House for festive family fun. Visit with Santa after having some cookies and cider, participate in the Christmas raffle, and make your own ornaments for your tree. Tour the Manor House while it’s beautifully decorated for the holiday season and then hop on the hayride and see the animals of the farm including the buffalo.

Charles County Holiday Trail

When: December 7th to December 8th

Where: La Plata, MD

The Charles County Holiday Trail is a holiday tradition which features historical sites and venues. Enjoy the people of the town who are dressed in period attire, listen to Christmas carolers, shop with local vendors, and enjoy the various local artists. Take a step back in time for a historical Christmas at the Charles County Holiday Trail.

Kris Kringle Market

When: December 13th to 15th

Where: La Plata, MD

Modeled after the traditional markets of Germany, the Kris Kringle Market offers something for everyone from Christmas light displays, homemade arts and crafts from local artists, delicious holiday treats, holiday music, shopping, and a ton of activities for the kiddos. Enjoy the music of the local choirs and bands, participate in the activities run by the local 4H club, explore the Christmas village and its lighted holiday path, and enjoy the firework display.
